Update of Charlotte Location               September 2, 2008

CWA proposed concessions to the company but they were not accepted.  The union proposed a “Lean Manufacturing” program which was also rejected because the company had already begun a similar approach.  The company will finalize its decision to close the Charlotte location by September 9th.   The next step is to begin “effects” bargaining. The date has not been set.

Update of Charlotte Location                   August 27, 2008

CWA National is in contact with the Governor Mike Easley to seek financial incentives to keep our facility open.  They will not be able to meet until after the Democratic National Convention.

Update of Charlotte Location                   July 16, 2008

The National Alliance Committee was in the building on July 15, 2008 to discuss training options for employees.   More information about educational possibilities is coming in the near future.

As of this date:

National Communications Workers of America submitted a questionnaire of  “request data” on July 8, 2008. The questions submitted to Alcatel-Lucent for data will help in preparing our concerns for the closing Charlotte, NC.

As noted in the meeting on July 2, 2008: Ralph Maly will return and discuss the information he received.

As of now, Alcatel-Lucent has not responded to any question submitted by the union (Nat’l CWA).

We have contacted Andy Wambach, ERC coordinator and Steve Brumbelow CWA medical coordinator, in reference to closing and they are ready come to Charlotte on short notice.

Our next scheduled general meeting will be August 7, 2008, 4:30pm Northcross Lanes bowling alley.

In Unity,

CWA Local 3695

The triangle symbolizes the three major programs of the union: representation, organizing, and community/political action. None can stand alone. If the triangle is broken on any side, sooner or later it will be broken on every side. CWA's founding president, Joseph Beirne, called this the "triple threat."
